Questions buyers ask
What is the difference between a help desk and a managed service provider?
A help desk answers users' requests and fixes day-to-day problems. A managed service provider usually includes a help desk but also looks after the infrastructure behind it, such as servers, cloud, security and backups. Many providers below offer both.
Do I need a 24/7 help desk?
Only if people work outside business hours and cannot wait until morning for routine help. Many organisations need 24/7 monitoring and an on-call engineer for outages, but a business-hours help desk for everything else. Ask each provider which of these it staffs around the clock.
Can an outsourced help desk work alongside our internal IT team?
Yes. Co-managed support is common. The provider takes first-line requests or covers leave and peaks, while the internal team keeps ownership of projects. PicNet's managed IT FAQ describes how it works with internal teams.
