Software Development Services

Our senior Sydney based engineers use AI to build custom software in a fraction of the time it once took, with the same care we bring to banking and health systems. Projects that never used to justify the investment now do.

When your company needs

Beyond the Spreadsheet

Is part of your business still run on spreadsheets and manual steps because custom software never seemed worth the cost?

Working Software in Weeks

Do you need a working system in weeks rather than months?

AI with Senior Oversight

Do you want the speed of AI-built software without gambling on its security, architecture or quality?

Effective Integration

Do you need your systems connected so the whole company works from the same data?

Systems That Last

Do you need software designed to still be easy to change in ten years?

Local Support

Do you want the people who built your system to be the ones supporting it, from Sydney?

How We Build Software Now

How We Build Software Now
AI Changed What's Worth Building

Modern AI tooling lets our senior team deliver in weeks what used to take months. That changes which projects make sense. The internal tool, the workflow system, the tracking database that sat in the too-hard basket for years can now be built properly, at a cost that stacks up.

Quality Is Still the Hard Part

AI writes code fast. It doesn't choose the right architecture, secure your data or keep a system maintainable for the next decade. Every system we ship is designed, reviewed and tested by senior engineers, the same people who have built banking and health platforms for Australia's major corporations and government agencies since 2001. And when a client's compliance rules exclude AI entirely, we build fully traditionally, with our engineers writing every line themselves.

Types of Systems

OPERATIONAL TOOLS

The systems that never stacked up before

01

The scheduling tool, the compliance register, the production tracker that has lived in spreadsheets for years because custom software cost too much. These are now some of our most common builds. For one of the world's largest South Sea pearl producers we built a complete shell production tracking system that works offline on remote farms, on a budget that a few years ago would have barely covered the analysis phase.

WEB APPLICATIONS

Business-critical, built to scale

02

Secure, high-availability web platforms that run real operations. From the patient, billing and performance-reporting systems we deliver across NSW Health to a real-time banking platform for an Australian payments provider, these are distributed systems built to stay reliable under genuine load.

MOBILE APPLICATIONS

Your organisation in your pocket

03

Native and cross-platform apps for iOS and Android. This includes the mobile app we built for clinicians and medical staff at the Independent Hospital Pricing Authority to capture national costing-study data, backed by a secure web and reporting platform.

INTEGRATION & SUPPORT

Connect everything, keep it running

04

We connect your systems and support them for the long term. From consolidating data across NSW Health's many source systems to fault-tolerant, near real-time integrations powered by Centazio, our own open-source integration platform, we keep your data moving and your systems healthy.

REAL SYSTEMS, REAL BUDGETS

Some of our Case Studies

NSW Health case study

A DECADE INSIDE AUSTRALIA'S LARGEST HEALTH SYSTEM

NSW Health runs the largest public health system in Australia. PicNet has built and supported software for the Ministry of Health since 2015: complex data platforms, billing portals, live emergency department dashboards and the data warehouse behind non-admitted patient reporting.

Systems That Carry Real Weight

The mLoad portal validates patient data files against thousands of clinical rules before they reach the state data warehouse. The Clinician Billing Portal automated billing for public hospital clinicians. The Emergency Access View shows live emergency department performance for every public hospital in NSW.

Built Entirely by Hand

Due to data sensitivity, every line of code we deliver for NSW Health is written, reviewed and tested by our engineers the traditional way. We deliver on the same terms for any client with strict compliance obligations. Ten years on, the architects who scoped the first project are still the people supporting these systems.

CUSTOM FARM MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE

This company farms in remote waters off northern Australia and Indonesia. Its production records lived in spreadsheets and paper forms, because a custom system had never made financial sense.

Built for Life Off the Grid

The system we built tracks every step through its production lifecycle, from seeding to harvest. It runs as a progressive web app that keeps working without an internet connection and syncs when coverage returns, because the farms don't have reliable reception.

The Build That Finally Stacked Up

A small senior PicNet team designed and delivered the whole system, using AI tooling to keep the build fast and the budget modest. A few years ago this project would have cost several times more, and it simply would not have been approved. It's the kind of system we now build all the time.

Ernst & Young case study

A MANUAL CONSULTING PROCESS, AUTOMATED

Ernst & Young helps large organisations benchmark and improve their sales and service operations, using the Blackdot methodology it acquired. Those benchmarking surveys were configured and reported by hand, which capped how many client projects the team could run at once.

From Workshop to Working Platform

PicNet was first engaged to run a business analysis and requirements workshop. That led to building the platform itself: a system that automates survey setup, integrates with KeySurvey and produces client-ready reports at the click of a button.

Still Running, Still Growing

The platform has been in production since 2019, and PicNet continues to support and extend it. EY's consultants now manage each client project through it, with clients logging in directly to review and approve their work.

Independent Hospital Pricing Authority case study

A NATIONAL COSTING STUDY IN CLINICIANS' POCKETS

The Independent Hospital Pricing Authority advises on the price of public hospital services across Australia. To do that for non-admitted care, it needed activity and costing data collected from clinicians around the country.

Mobile, Web and Reporting in One Platform

Working with Health Policy Analysis, PicNet built mobile apps for doctors and medical staff to record activity data, a management system for study administrators, and a reporting environment for the analysts running the study.

Health-Grade Data Handling

The platform collected sensitive clinical data from every state, so security and data integrity set the bar for the whole build. The study's results fed into the development of the Australian Non-Admitted Care Classification.

Guide Dogs NSW/ACT case study

A LONG-TERM PARTNER FOR A NOT-FOR-PROFIT

Guide Dogs NSW/ACT provides Guide Dogs and orientation and mobility services to people with low vision or blindness. PicNet has worked with the organisation since 2017 across its website, CRM and internal systems.

The Systems Behind the Mission

PicNet maintains and develops many internal systems and assists Guide Dogs with automation and rapid development using the latest technologies available.

Doing More With a Charity's Budget

A not-for-profit can't fund a large IT program, so every build has to earn its keep. That means a small senior team building only what's needed, which is exactly how we now work for every client.

Cruising Yacht Club of Australia case study

RUNNING A FAMOUS CLUB ON GOOD DATA

The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia hosts the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race and runs a busy marina, sailing office and club operations. PicNet is the club's complete IT partner.

Dashboards Management Actually Uses

PicNet built a reporting dashboard covering marina, race and membership data, giving club management a clear picture of operations that had previously been spread across separate systems.

From Dashboards to Digital Strategy

That work grew into a five-year digital transformation blueprint. Today PicNet runs the club's IT end to end: service desk, infrastructure, cloud and ongoing software development, with systems integrated through our open-source platform Centazio.
